What is Youth On A Mission?

YOUTH ON A MISSION...
or YOAM (pronounced YOME), is a Catholic leadership training for high school* youth leaders who are active in their parish/school community. *Target audience: incoming sophomores to graduated seniors. Rather than a retreat, YOAM is a four-year leadership formation for youth leaders who are ready for the next step of becoming missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. Each year focuses on one of the four pillars of leadership formation: Human | Spiritual | Intellectual | Pastoral The objective is to teach and empower servant leadership, so participants can apply what they have learned within their communities. |
PARTICIPATION BY NOMINATION
Each participant, or YOAMan, is nominated by their parish/school leaders to attend YOAM. We invite the leadership staff/team of the parish or school to prayerfully discern their nominations.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOAM?
This year's leadership focus is INTELLECTUAL formation. YOAMans will learn the importance of studying and understanding the breadth and depth of Catholic theology and acquiring the intellectual skills to use that knowledge in ministry and life. In addition, YOAM offers participants memorable experiences of prayer, worship, community, conversations, and yes, a ton of fun!

Meet our 2026 YOAM Keynote Speaker:
Joseph Nufable |

Joe Nufable is a creative and collaborative ministry leader passionate about the accompaniment, evangelization, and discipleship of youth and young adults and the formation and training of those who serve in those ministry areas. He has worked in youth and young adult ministry for over ten years and is currently the Coordinator of Youth & Young Adult Ministries at the Diocese of Oakland. Joseph has Master of Arts Degree in Catechetics and Evangelization from the Franciscan University of Steubenville with a specialization in Sacred Scripture.
